Spiritual In-sight

I started this mandala one evening while listening to a CD(set) by Dr. Michael Beckwith*. I've been a enthusiast of his since the early 90s, and he is a major Catalyst for me in regard to my inward journey of spiritual growth and transformation. On this particular CD, in addition to a soul-awakening message, he takes us through a powerful guided meditation in which it I saw a starburst of silvery-white shimmering light well-up rapidly from the Core of my being and rush through me. It then flashed behind my eyes and lingered a bit...as if to say "Yes...I'm Real". An awesome experience. It was exhilarating, assuring and a whole lot more that I cannot find the words to describe right now.
.
Anyway, you might already know that "eyes" have been showing up in my mandalas since I started creating them in May of this year. - (Making them was part of the Integrative Breathwork Weekend that I participated in at FullCircle Retreat in Wisconsin.) - Since I create them spontaneously, the EYE...as well as everything else...really does decide if, when and where it will show up; I just let it come through and create it accordingly. As I was just about finished with this mandala, while still listening to Dr. Beckwith, I had a flash of In-sight and realized that it indeed represented the "flashing starburst of light" I saw during the guided meditation...my Spiritual In-sight. What a gift this is...what a gift life is!

I can completely understand the mysteries of the eye. I, also, find the eye is a powerful symbol for me and it will turned up in my artwork, often unplanned. I can't wait to see how it this symbol continues to grow in your work and process.

This is such a powerful piece, and especially along with your post. The symbolism of the eye is strong in almost every cutlure and belief, but I think the strongest meaning is for us as individuals. Insight...belief in what one feels and sees within...are all strong guiding forces. Strange how we need to work so hard to "see" and "hear" what is already there inside us! Thanks for sharing!

Pilar & Carla,
Wow, you two have shared some wonderful thoughts...appreciation of the eye, what In-sights mean to us individually...in our hearts and in our art.

Thank you so much for your warm, inspiring thoughts and art.
Hugs,
Cheryl

Cheryl,

I have been searching for almost two weeks to relocate this quote I discovered at an Artist's retreat in 1998...because it reminds me of your incredible journey with the Mandala. You may have already come across this by Carl Jung:

"...only gradually did I discover what the Mandala really is:

Formation, Transformation, eternal Mind's eternal recreation...and that is the Self, the wholeness of the personality, which if all goes well is harmonious, but which cannot tolerate self-deceptions...

The Self is our life's goal for it is the completest expression of that fateful combination we call individuality...

All the paths I had been following, all the steps I had taken, were leading back to a single point - namely, to the mid-point. It became increasingly plain to me that the Mandala is the center. It is the exponent of all paths. IT IS THE PATH TO THE CENTER, TO INDIVIDUATION."

Royce,
Wow! Thank you very much for this excerpt from Jung's work...and for searching for it for 2 weeks! How very thoughtful of you!

Yes, as Jung writes, I too find the Mandala informs me of myself...so very powerful.
Thanks again.
